The Supreme Court has imposed a fine of Rs 60 lakh on the Uttar Pradesh government for demolishing structures in Prayagraj without following due process. The court ruled that demolition notices must be served personally to the individuals residing in the unauthorised premises and not merely affixed on the premises. The Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) has been directed to pay Rs 10 lakh each to the petitioners as compensation.
