In Kerala, under Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, a stratified system of justice is being applied, as demonstrated by the alleged manhandling and abduction of a woman councillor by CPI-M members. Despite Vijayan's public statements on gender security, his party members were condoned for the abuse, while a similar response was not extended to another woman who faced harassment.
