💨 Abstract
The Shompen and Nicobarese tribes have inhabited Great Nicobar Island for millennia. The Shompen, numbering around 250, are semi-nomadic hunter-gatherers living deep in the forests. The Nicobarese, about 1,200 on Great Nicobar, are settled and engage in agriculture, fishing, and wage work. A proposed project threatens to displace both communities, taking over their ancestral lands and forests.
