💨 Abstract
Researchers at ETH Zurich have studied the early stages of endosymbiosis, a biological phenomenon where one organism lives within another, often to mutual benefit. In lab experiments, they injected bacteria into fungal cells and observed the response. When E. coli bacteria were introduced, the fungus mounted an immune response and encapsulated the bacteria, preventing transmission.
