South Africa's fast bowler Lungi Ngidi has been ruled out of the home test series due to a groin injury, missing matches against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Captain Temba Bavuma is doubtful for the series due to an elbow injury. Ngidi is expected to return in January, possibly for the SA20 Twenty20 league. Bavuma's absence would be more significant as South Africa's top order batting can be brittle.
