In the Dakar Rally, local favorite Yazeed Al-Rajhi won the 48-hour second stage despite a speeding penalty. South African Henk Lategan took the overall lead for the factory Toyota team, with a two-minute penalty for Al-Rajhi and a four-minute penalty for five-times Dakar winner Nasser Al-Attiyah.
