French sailor Maxime Sorel retired from the Vendee Globe sailing race on Friday after battling a swollen ankle and irreparable mainsail damage. The injury, sustained while attempting repairs, left Sorel struggling to move safely on his boat. Despite four years of preparation, he has abandoned his second Vendee Globe.
