The United States released an Afghan man convicted of drug smuggling and terrorism in exchange for two American citizens held in Afghanistan. The man, Khan Mohammad, was sentenced to life in prison by a US court in 2008. One of the released Americans was identified as Ryan Corbett. The prisoner exchange followed long negotiations between Afghan and US authorities and was welcomed by the Afghan foreign ministry.
