💨 Abstract

Taiwan is increasing surveillance and management of ships with flags of convenience, including boarding them, following a Chinese-linked cargo vessel's suspected damage to an undersea communications cable. The vessel, owned by a Hong Kong company but registered in Cameroon and Tanzania, was not verified nor boarded due to bad weather. China denies involvement. Taiwan will also promote international cooperation with the U.S.
