In 2024, climate change-fueled fires led to unprecedented global forest loss, with tropical forests alone losing 6.7 million hectares, an 80% increase from 2023. Brazil, Bolivia, and Canada were particularly affected. The World Resources Institute and the University of Maryland report highlighted that fires were the leading cause of tropical forest loss, a concerning shift for naturally humid ecosystems.
