In Ghana, a small-scale miners' association claimed that nine unarmed people were killed by soldiers at an AngloGold Ashanti mine on Saturday night. The army stated that seven illegal miners were killed in a firefight. The incident occurred at the Obuasi gold mining site in the Ashanti Region. The government has ordered an investigation and asked AngloGold Ashanti to cover medical expenses and burial costs for the injured and deceased.
