President Joe Biden has ordered 500 active-duty troops to aid in the response and recovery efforts of Hurricane Helene in western North Carolina. This brings the total number of troops assisting to 1,500, joining over 6,100 National Guardsmen and 7,000 Federal personnel. Biden also mentioned being briefed on Tropical Storm Milton as it strengthened in the Gulf of Mexico.
