Brazilian microbiologist Mariangela Hungria, renowned for her research in sustainable agriculture, has been named the 2025 World Food Prize Laureate. For over four decades at Embrapa, Hungria's work on soil bacteria has revolutionized soybean production, increasing it from 15 million metric tons in the 1980s to over 170 million tons today, making Brazil the world's largest producer and exporter.
