💨 Abstract
In Rio de Janeiro, BRICS diplomats agreed on a joint declaration for their leaders' summit after failing to do so in April. The expanded BRICS group, now including six additional nations, aims to represent the Global South but faces challenges in reaching consensus on geopolitical issues. The diplomats struggled with language on the Gaza bombardment, Israel-Iran conflict, and U.N. Security Council reform. They agreed to endorse seats for Brazil and India and to strengthen language on Middle East conflicts.
