đ¨ Abstract
A statue of British explorer James Cook in Sydney was vandalized with red paint and damaged before Australia's national day. This is the second time the statue has been defaced within a year. Indigenous Australians, who make up about 4% of the country's population, view the Australia Day holiday as a symbol of cultural destruction by European settlers. Many Indigenous groups want the holiday to be dropped or the date changed.
