💨 Abstract

Chinese health authorities have detected a new mutated strain of mpox, clade Ib, in a cluster outbreak linked to a foreigner with travel history in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Four cases have been found in people infected after close contact with the foreigner, with mild symptoms including skin rash and blisters. Mpox spreads through close contact and can be fatal in rare cases.
