The Chinese foreign ministry has stated that it is maintaining close communication with the World Health Organization regarding rising cases of the human metapneumovirus (HMPV) in China. The HMPV, which has been circulating in humans for over 60 years, is not new and is known to manifest as a self-limiting disease, according to foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun.
