China emitted 13 billion metric tons of greenhouse gases in 2021, a 4.3% increase from the previous year, according to its latest submission to the United Nations. This makes China, the world's largest carbon polluter, responsible for more than 70% increase in emissions since 2005, primarily due to rising energy demand.
