💨 Abstract
The Philippines has protested China's deployment of its largest coast guard vessel within Manila's exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in the South China Sea, calling it an escalation and provocation. The 165 m long vessel, Chinese coast guard vessel 5901, was spotted 77 nautical miles off the coast of Zambales province and was described as alarming and meant to intimidate local fishermen.
