💨 Abstract
Rural communities in Colombia and Ecuador's Andes are protecting fragile high-altitude wetlands (paramos) to regulate water cycles amidst severe water and energy rationing. These wetlands, which absorb and release rain, are critical for both nations, largely dependent on hydroelectric dams for energy. The paramos are under threat due to deforestation, climate change, and human activity.
