In Moldova, 11 presidential candidates, including incumbent Maia Sandu, have been approved for an election on October 20, which will coincide with a referendum on EU membership. Sandu leads in opinion polls against challengers such as Alexander Stoianoglo and Renato Usatii, who favor ties with both the West and Russia.
