💨 Abstract
Kurdish forces in northern Syria are opposed to handing over a prison holding Islamic State (IS) fighters to the new Islamist rulers in Damascus, fearing attacks and IS's attempts to re-emerge. The U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) has reported two IS prison attacks since Dec. 8 as the group exploits the upheaval.
