Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter's state funeral, a national tribute typically reserved for heads of state, began on Jan. 4 in Georgia, with ceremonies culminating in a National Cathedral service in Washington, D.C. on Jan. His remains will be privately buried in Plains, Georgia. A motorcade will take him through his hometown and to Atlanta, with stops at the state capitol and Carter Presidential Center.
