In the Gaza ceasefire deal, Israel has agreed to release Palestinian prisoners in exchange for hostages taken by Hamas in an Oct. 7, 2023 attack. The number of prisoners and hostages to be released is yet to be finalized due to uncertainty over the number of hostages still alive.
