💨 Abstract
Spanish authorities confirmed the release of prominent Venezuelan-Spanish activist Rocio San Miguel and four other Spaniards from Venezuelan prison. However, local rights groups reported that promised releases of Venezuelan prisoners had not occurred. The releases came amid political turmoil in Caracas, following the U.S. ouster of President Nicolas Maduro and the swearing-in of interim President Delcy Rodriguez. Human rights groups estimate over 800 political prisoners in Venezuela, including at least 86 foreigners.
