💨 Abstract
The Novo Nordisk Foundation and University of Copenhagen researchers have scrapped plans to redefine ultra-processed foods (UPFs) after over 90 food scientists raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest and confusion. Professor Carlos Monteiro, who first coined the term UPF, questioned the project and was supported by other scientists, who warned that a similarly-named system could imply discrediting the established classification and researchers from the Global South.
