💨 Abstract

In late December, protests erupted in Tehran, led by shopkeepers and merchants frustrated with economic mismanagement. The unrest quickly expanded to include students, workers, and others demanding better living standards and an end to the Islamic republic system. The protests come amid severe economic challenges, including high inflation, currency devaluation, and shortages of essential goods due to drought and Western sanctions. The government's response has been mixed, with some officials acknowledging governance failures while others blame foreign actors.
