💨 Abstract

In the 2022 U.S. presidential election, self-identified independents accounted for a larger share of voters than both Democrats and Republicans, according to Edison Research exit polling data. This was the first time since 2004 that independents' share of overall turnout exceeded one of the major U.S. political parties.
