Singapore-based Indian-origin artist Vijayalakshmi Mohan, a rangoli artist from Trichy, was among five recipients of the National Heritage Board's Stewards of Intangible Cultural Heritage Award. She learnt the 5000-year-old art form from her mother and has been practicing it for over 60 years. Mohan moved to Singapore in 1992 and started conducting rangoli workshops at schools and universities.
