The Indonesian government plans to permanently relocate thousands of residents living near Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki volcano on Flores Island due to a series of eruptions that resulted in nine deaths and the destruction of thousands of houses. The government aims to relocate residents living within a seven km radius from the crater. The volcano remains on the highest volcanic alert status, and at least 2,500 people have been evacuated so far.
