💨 Abstract
Islamic State claimed responsibility for an attack on a military base in Somalia's Puntland region on Wednesday, saying it killed around 22 military personnel and injured dozens. The attack was repulsed the day before by security forces, according to local authorities. The Somali franchise of Islamic State has grown in strength due to an influx of foreign fighters and improved revenue through extortion. It is considered a significant part of Islamic State's global network.
