Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Gallant stated that the replacement for Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, Hashem Safieddine, may have been "eliminated", as Israel began ground operations in southwest Lebanon. Safieddine, a top Hezbollah official, was a prime target for Israel and was expected to succeed Nasrallah.
