💨 Abstract
Italian journalist Cecilia Sala has been released from detention in Iran and is returning home following intense diplomatic and intelligence efforts. Sala, 29, had been working under a journalistic visa but was detained in Tehran on Dec. 19 and held in solitary confinement in Evin prison. Her release represents a diplomatic win for Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who had feared the case could drag on for weeks.
