Japan's Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya expressed concern over actions in the South China Sea that escalate tensions and opposes any unilateral changes to the status quo. During a visit to the Philippines, Iwaya pledged continued development and security assistance to Manila and strengthening of a trilateral mechanism involving the US.
