💨 Abstract

Japanese Farm Minister Taku Eto resigned after remarks about rice angered voters facing high prices. Eto admitted his comment, "never had to buy rice," was inappropriate. Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba plans to appoint former Environment Minister Shinjiro Koizumi as his replacement. The doubling of rice prices has become a major concern for Japanese voters, with government interventions so far unsuccessful. Eto's resignation is the first from Ishiba's cabinet.
