Japan's incoming prime minister, Shigeru Ishiba, announced a general election for Oct. 27, following his victory in a close LDP leadership race. Ishiba will lead the ruling party in the upcoming parliamentary election that will determine control of the lower house. Japanese shares fell on Monday as the yen strengthened in reaction to Ishiba's leadership win, as he is seen as a monetary policy hawk.
