đź’¨ Abstract
A massive blackout occurred on the Iberian Peninsula on Monday, caused by a sudden drop in power supply that tripped the grid interconnection between Spain and France. The Spanish grid operator, REE, lost 15 gigawatts of electricity generation in five seconds. The disconnection led to the collapse of the Spanish electricity network, causing disruptions in Spain and Portugal. The ultimate cause of the power loss was not identified, and no hypothesis is ruled out.
