💨 Abstract
Rodrigue Petitot, a leader of cost-of-living protests in Martinique, a French-ruled Caribbean island with high poverty levels, was released from prison on a one-year suspended sentence for trespassing during demonstrations. He was also found guilty of intimidation and verbal assault. His lawyer deemed the decision favorable as Petitot could have faced a 20-year sentence.
