💨 Abstract
Myanmar's military-backed Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) is leading after the first phase of a disputed general election, the first since the 2021 coup. Early results show the USDP winning 38 of 40 seats in the lower house and 14 of 15 regional seats. The election, criticized by the UN and Western countries, excludes anti-junta parties and bans criticism. Turnout was 52%, lower than previous elections.
