Russian President Vladimir Putin described China as a Russian ally and voiced support for China's claims over Taiwan during a speech in Sochi, Russia. Putin also stated that deepening Sino-Russian cooperation should not worry other countries. He accused Taiwan of stirring up a crisis to attract outside support and compared joint military drills between Russia and China to those conducted by the United States and Japan, stating that they are aimed at ensuring security.
