Russia's defense ministry reported on August 20 that its forces had repelled six Ukrainian attempts to enter the western Kursk region and seized control of Makiivka in eastern Ukraine's Luhansk region. The ministry stated that their forces, backed by aircraft and artillery, repelled incursions near Novy Put, 79 kilometers west of Sudzha.
