💨 Abstract

In Togo, seven people died during last week's anti-government protests, with activists accusing security forces of excessive violence. The protests, which began on Thursday, demanded the resignation of President Faure Gnassingbe amid a cost-of-living crisis. Security forces used tear gas and weapons, and were accused of arbitrary arrests and property damage. The government attributed the deaths to drowning, but activists argue otherwise.
