Singapore's former minister S. Iswaran was sentenced to 12 months in prison for obstructing justice and accepting over $300,000 in gifts. He had pleaded guilty to four counts of improper gift-receiving and one of obstruction. The case, the first jailing of a Singaporean ex-cabinet member, comes as a shock to the city-state known for its clean governance.
