💨 Abstract
In South Africa, at least 60 unlicensed miners were trapped in a gold mine for months due to a police siege aimed at arresting them. A court-ordered rescue operation started on Monday and has so far rescued 132 survivors, many emaciated and disoriented, and 60 bodies. The miners, mainly undocumented workers from Mozambique, were left to die, according to the South African Federation of Trade Unions.
