💨 Abstract
In South Africa, rescuers have extracted 36 bodies and 82 survivors from an illegal gold mine over two days. The survivors will face charges for illegal mining and immigration. Police laid siege to the mine in August, cutting off food and water supplies to force miners to the surface. The mine, located near Stilfontein, was shown to have dozens of corpses and emaciated survivors in footage by a miners' rights group.
