💨 Abstract

South Africa's Democratic Alliance (DA) is challenging a new employment law, known as the Employment Equity Amendment Act, which sets racial targets for large employers to address economic inequality. The law, enforced in January, allows the labor minister to set sector-specific targets for non-white people and women in management-level and professional roles. The DA claims the law is unconstitutional and will increase unemployment and deter investment.
