💨 Abstract

At the International Whaling Commission meeting in Lima, a proposal to establish a whale sanctuary in the southern Atlantic Ocean was rejected, disappointing conservationists. The plan aimed to ban commercial whale hunting from West Africa to the coasts of Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil, but was opposed by 14 countries, including Norway, Iceland, and Japan.
