South Korea's former prime minister Han Duck-Duck closed his brief bid for the conservative presidential nomination due to internal party disputes. Rival Kim Moon-soo was chosen as the nominee for the People Power Party. Han accepted the decision and expressed hope for Kim's victory. Their struggle prevented unity, benefiting the leading candidate from the opposition Democratic Party, Lee Jae-myung. President Yoon Suk Yeol's impeachment triggered the snap election.
