A large study indicates that diabetes during pregnancy increases the risk of neurodevelopmental disorders in children, such as autism, ADHD, intellectual disability, communication, movement, and learning disorders. The study found that children of mothers with diabetes during pregnancy were 28% more likely to have one or more neurodevelopmental disorders. The risk was higher for pre-existing diabetes than gestational diabetes.
