Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado was "intercepted" during a protest in Caracas, but later confirmed her safety. She was forced to record videos while being detained but was eventually released. US President-elect Donald Trump expressed support for Machado and called for her safety, amid fears of repression in Venezuela as President Nicolas Maduro's third term approaches. The Venezuelan government has denied detaining Machado.
